Polyester is a popular fabric that’s commonly used in clothing, upholstery, and home decor. One benefit of polyester is its durability: it’s resistant to shrinking, wrinkle-resistant, and it can handle vigorous cleaning. However, mud stains are a challenge. If you’ve got mud stains on your polyester, here’s what to do:
Using a dull knife or a spoon, scrape off the excess dirt and mud that may have dried onto the fabric. Be sure to be careful not to damage the fabric in any way.
Mix a tablespoon of detergent with two cups of warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the stained area lightly and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing with cool water.
If the pre-treatment didn’t remove the mud stain completely, apply a spot cleaner specifically designed for polyester fabrics. Follow instructions on the package for maximum effectiveness and optimal results.
If you still see a bit of the stain, use a clean cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol and gently rub the stained area. Don’t forget to test the alcohol on a small, hidden area of fabric first.
Once stain has been removed, launder the fabric as usual. Make sure to follow the care instructions that come with the fabric so as not to damage it.
With a bit of patience and persistence, even toughest mud stains can be removed from polyester. Just follow the steps above and you'll be on your way to getting rid of mud stains with ease!
