The first step in cleaning mud stains is to remove as much of the dirt as possible by using a clean, dry brush. Gently run the brush over the fabric to rid it of excess particles. This will make it easier to clean the remaining dirt and mud residue.
After you have removed as much dirt and mud as possible, pre-treat the stain with a laundry detergent. Use a small amount of detergent and gently rub it onto the stain in a circular motion. Then, let the detergent sit for 10-15 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Once the pre-treating process is complete, you can hand wash the garment or machine wash it on a cold setting. If you are machine washing, use a gentle cycle and add a small amount of mild detergent. For hand washing, use lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Soak garment for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it out with cool water.
To ensure that garment does not shrink or fade, air dry it rather than dry it in the dryer. Hang the garment up or lay it flat in an area away from direct sunlight. Do not attempt to dry clean garment as this could damage or discolor the fabric.
Mud stains may seem like a challenge to get rid of, but with the right steps, you can easily remove them from your outerwear. Start by brushing off the mud with a clean, dry brush and pre-treat it with a laundry detergent. Then, either hand wash or machine wash the garment on a cold setting. Lastly, air dry garment to maintain the quality of the fabric. With these tips, you can keep your outerwear looking sharp and clean no matter what the season.
