Ingredients You Need
- Borax
- Dish soap
- Warm water
- White vinegar
Steps to Cleaning Your Muslin
- Start by scraping off the dried mud from the muslin fabric. Don’t rub, as this can push the dirt deeper into fabric.
- Mix 1 cup of Borax with 2-3 tablespoons of your favorite, mild dish soap in a bowl of warm water.
- Soak your muslin in the solution for 30 minutes.
- Rinse the muslin using a gentle, lukewarm stream of water.
- Mix a solution of one part white vinegar to two parts water then soak the muslin for another 30 minutes.
- Rinse the muslin again in a gentle lukewarm stream of water and hang to dry.
Tips for the Best Results
- Test any cleaning product to make sure that color doesn’t fade or bleed before using.
- While Borax is considered safe on most fabrics, be sure to double check care instructions on your fabric before beginning.
- For tougher mud stains, you may need to repeat process several times.
