Step 1: Act Quickly

The sooner you act, the easier it will be to remove the mud stain from your dress. If possible, use running cold water to rinse off as much mud as possible before it has time to fully dry and set.

Step 2: Pre-treat with Detergent

After rinsing, apply a small amount of mild detergent directly to the stain area. Gently massage the detergent into the material, using your finger or a soft brush. Rinse again with cold water and blot dry with a towel.

Step 3: Soak in Vinegar and Water

Fill your sink with warm water and add ¼ cup of vinegar. Submerge the stained area of dress in the water and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Rinse and blot dry again.

Step 4: Washing Machine Wash

If the stain is still present, you can put your dress in the washing machine to finish the job. Set the machine on a gentle cycle and use a mild detergent. For added protection, run the dress through a second spin cycle.

Step 5: Air Dry

Once your dress is finished in the washing machine, hang it to air dry. Never put a maxi dress in the dryer, as it can shrink or become misshapen.

Conclusion

Getting mud on your maxi dress doesn't have to lead to disaster. With right cleaning steps, you can easily get rid of those pesky mud stains and have your dress looking as good as new.
