When mud stains mar your favourite linens, don’t worry – they’re not beyond salvation! First, as soon as possible, scrape off the excess dirt or mud off fabric with a spoon.
Then, fill a sink or bucket with three gallons of warm water and two tablespoons of mild detergent, such as Woolite. Remove the excess moisture from the fabric by squeezing it; then, place it into the soapy water.
Let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes; then, rinse it in cool water and let air dry. If the stain still remains, treat it with some white vinegar. Dip a clean cloth in a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts water, and dab the cloth onto the stain.
Once treated, rinse the fabric again in cool water and let it air dry. Be sure to check fabric for any remaining mud before putting it into dryer. It’s important to note that if the fabric is labeled as “dry clean only”, you should take it to a professional dry cleaner instead.
