Remove the Excess Mud

First, remove any excess mud from your garter by using a knifepoint or a butter knife to gently scrape away any chunks of mud that have stuck to the garter.

Pre-Treat the Stain

Before you begin attempting to wash the garter, pre-treat the stain with a stain remover. Apply the product directly onto the affected area, and let it sit for a few minutes.

Machine Wash at Low Temperature

Once the pre-treatment solution has been applied, place the garter in the washing machine on the “hand wash” or Delicates cycle, using lukewarm water and a mild detergent.

Air Dry

When the cycle is complete, hang the garter up to air dry. Do not put it in the dryer as this could cause the fabric to shrink or the stain to become set in more.

Check Results

Once your garter has been fully dried, inspect the affected area to see if stain was removed. If not, you may need to repeat the above steps.

Hand Wash

If you are unable to use a washing machine, you can also hand-wash garter in warm water and mild detergent. Do not use hot water as this could cause stain to set in further.

Try Vinegar

If the above methods do not work, try using a mixture of white vinegar and water. Soak affected area in the solution for a few minutes before rinsing clean.
