Accidentally getting mud on your favorite fleece jacket or blanket is an inevitable part of daily life. While removing mud from any fabric can be tricky, it's especially difficult when it comes to fleece material. Fleece is known for its durability and warmth, but that same durability makes it tough to treat.

Steps for Removing Mud Stains From Fleece

  1. Scrape off Excess Mud – To start, take a spoon, spatula, or other dull object and scrape off any excess mud that has dried on the fleece. This will reduce the amount of mud you’ll have to clean later.
  2. Pretreat the Stain – Next, pour a small amount of laundry detergent directly onto the mud stain. Gently rub the detergent into the fabric and let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow detergent to penetrate the fabric fibers.
  3. Run a Cold Water Cycle – Place the garment in the washing machine and select a cold water cycle. The cold water will help prevent the colors of the fabric from fading. Make sure to avoid using hot water as it can cause the mud stain to set in.
  4. Add Detergent and Bleach – Along with cold water, add a capful of laundry detergent and a tablespoon of bleach to the wash cycle. This will help further lift the mud stain from the fabric.
  5. Rinse Out the Garment – When the cycle is complete, carefully remove the garment from the machine and rinse out any residual detergent that may still remain in the fabric. To make sure that all of the detergent is removed, run another cold water cycle without detergent.
  6. Dry the Garment – Place the garment in the dryer on low heat and check periodically to make sure the mud stain is completely gone. If not, rewash garment and repeat steps above until the mud stain is completely gone.

With these simple steps, you should be able to remove mud stains from your fleece clothing or blankets with ease. Just remember – always use cold water and gentle detergents to ensure the fabric is treated properly.
