Using a soft-bristled brush or a dull knife, gently scrape away excess mud from the fabric of your evening gown. Make sure to be as gentle as possible while scraping the mud off – you don’t want to further damage the fabric of your dress.
Once the excess mud has been scraped off, pre-treat the stain with a laundry stain remover. Allow solution to sit for at least 10 minutes before washing.
When ready, put evening gown in the washing machine. Use cold water and a delicate cycle. Do not use chlorine bleach or fabric softeners – these products may cause further damage to the fabric.
Once the cycle is complete, hang the evening gown up to air-dry. Do not tumble dry or put the garment in the dryer – this can shrink or otherwise damage fabric.
If the stain is still visible after initial wash, repeat steps 2-4 until the stain is gone. Just make sure to pre-treat the stain with a stain remover before putting the evening gown back in washer.
