Start by vacuuming the area to remove as much of dirt and mud as possible. If the drapes have pleats, make sure to vacuum those as well.
Once you’ve removed the bulk of the dirt and mud, use a soft cloth to blot stain without rubbing it. This will help to prevent the stain from spreading or becoming more ingrained.
If the stain is still present, try applying a dry cleaning solvent to the area. Be sure to read the instructions for the specific product you are using. Generally, you should apply the solvent to a cloth before applying it to fabric in order to avoid direct contact.
Once you’ve applied the solvent, use a clean cloth to gently wipe away the excess. Make sure to work slowly so that you don’t rub the stain further into the fabric.
Once you’ve wiped away as much of the dirt and mud as possible, allow area to air dry. Do not put the drapery or curtain back up until it’s completely dry.
With these steps, you should be able to easily remove mud stains from your draperies and curtains. Just remember to take your time and be gentle when working with the fabric.
