The first step to cleaning mud stains from cotton seersucker is to pre-treat the stain. Start by using a damp sponge to blot the mud away, then apply some laundry detergent directly to affected area. Let the detergent sit for several minutes. This will help break down the soil particles in the mud and make them easier to remove.
Once the detergent has had a chance to do its work, rinse the stained area with warm water. Use a clean sponge to remove as much of the mud and detergent as possible.
To further remove the mud stain, you can soak the fabric in a solution of white vinegar and warm water. Allow the fabric to sit in the solution for at least 30 minutes before removing. This will help break down the mud particles even more.
Once the fabric has soaked in the solution of vinegar and water, put it in the washing machine with other similarly-colored items. Use cold water and your regular laundry detergent, and run cycle as you normally would. This should help lift the remaining stain from the fabric.
If any traces of the stain remain after washing, apply a paste made from baking soda and water. Rub the paste into the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing. The baking soda should draw out the last bit of mud stain.
