Using Water & Detergent

If the mud stain is still wet, gently scrape off as much of the mud as possible using a soft brush or cloth. Then, hold coat under running, lukewarm water to rinse away the remaining particles. Make sure the water is not too hot, as this can cause the mud to set into the fabric.

Once the majority of the mud has been removed, fill a sink or basin with lukewarm water and add a small amount of mild laundry detergent. Mix detergent into the water until it is sudsy, then submerge the entire coat and allow it to soak for 15-20 minutes. After soaking, use your hands to gently agitate the fabric and work the sudsy water into the fabric fibers.

Rinse the coat in cold water until all of the suds have been removed, then hang the coat to air dry.

Removing Dried Mud Stains

If the mud stain has dried, you can still remove it with the same method as described above. You may need to use a brush to loosen any crusted mud particles before you can start soaking the coat.

If the mud stain is particularly stubborn, try creating a paste out of baking soda and water and applying it directly to the stain. Allow the paste to sit for at least one hour, then rinse off with lukewarm water.

Preventing Future Mud Stains

Once you've removed the mud stain, you can take some steps to prevent future dirt and grime from settling into your coat. Always be sure to store your coat in a cool, dry place when you're not wearing it. Additionally, consider treating your coat with a waterproofing spray. This will help repel moisture and dirt, making it much easier to clean up any mud spills that occur.
