Start by taking a soft cloth or towel and gently blotting the stained area. Don’t rub or scrub the fabric; you could end up pushing mud further into fabric. Blotting will help absorb some of mud and keep it from spreading.
Once you have blotted as much mud as you can, it’s time to soak the stained area. Fill a basin with cold water and mix in a few drops of mild detergent. Submerge the stained area in soapy water and let sit for at least 10 minutes.
After soaking the stained area, take a soft bristled brush or cloth and start scrubbing the area. Be sure to use light pressure and be gentle with the fabric. Scrubbing will help loosen the mud from the fabric and make it easier to remove.
Once you’ve finished scrubbing stained area, rinse the fabric with cold water to remove any excess mud or detergent. Gently squeeze out any excess water and lay the fabric on a clean towel to dry. Use another towel to press down on the fabric and absorb as much water as possible.
If the mud stain isn’t completely removed after the first try, repeat steps 1-4 until the stain is completely gone. Don’t forget to always test any detergents or cleaning agents in an inconspicuous area of the fabric before using them on the stain.
