When you’re out for a walk on a muddy day, an unfortunate incident can occur where the mud from your shoes and the ground transfer onto your clothes. Cardigans, being a fabric material, are particularly prone to mud stains and may require extra care and attention when removing them.
Before attempting any attempts at cleaning mud stain, make sure to remove as much of the mud as possible. This will prevent the dirt from sinking deeper into the fabric and make it easier to later wash and clean the cardigan. To do this, use a dry cloth or paper towel and gently press down over the mud stain until most of the excess mud is removed. Do not rub the cloth in circles as this may cause mud stain to spread.
After you’ve removed as much of the mud as you can, it’s time to make a gentle cleaning solution. You can do this by combining ½ teaspoon of mild laundry detergent with two cups of warm water. Use a toothbrush or a soft-bristled brush to gently apply the mixture to the mud stain.
Once the mixture has been applied, you will need to rinse the spot and then re-wash the whole cardigan. Be sure to use cold water for both the rinse and wash. For extra protection from any remaining mud, add a few drops of white vinegar to wash water. After these steps have been completed, simply leave cardigan to air-dry.
