Before you start cleaning mud stains from canvas, make sure you have all the materials you need. These include laundry detergent, a clean cloth, biodegradable soap, cold water, and a soft-bristle brush.
Mix two tablespoons of laundry detergent with one cup of cold water. Dab mixture onto mud stain with a clean cloth. Let the pre-treatment sit on the stain for about five minutes, allowing the detergent to break down the mud.
Using a soft-bristle brush, gently scrub stain in circular motions. Make sure to keep brush bristles flat against the canvas so as not to damage the fabric, and be sure to be gentle in your scrubbing.
Once you’ve finished scrubbing the mud stain, use warm water to rinse away the remaining dirt and detergent. Then, use a cloth and some biodegradable soap to clean the entire area, removing any lingering residue.
Finally, allow area to air dry or use a clean cloth to dab the area dry. Once the area is completely dry, you will be left with a clean, mud-free canvas item.
