The first thing you should do when dealing with mud stains on your shirt is to pre-treat area with a specially formulated mud stain remover. Most removers contain enzymes that will help break down the stain without damaging fabric. Use the product according to instructions on the package and allow it to sit for 30 minutes before moving on to next step.
After allowing the pre-treater to sit for 30 minutes, rinse area with cold water by rubbing the fabric together in a circular motion. This will help break up the stain and make it easier to remove.
Once the mud stain has been rinsed out, wash the entire shirt in gentle detergent. Make sure to select a detergent specifically designed to be gentle and safe for the garment’s fabric. Then, put the shirt in the washing machine and run a full cycle.
After the washing cycle is complete, check for any remaining stains on your shirt. If there are any, you may need to repeat the steps above to fully remove the stain. Once the stain is completely gone, simply hang shirt to dry.
