As soon as possible, rinse the mud stain thoroughly with cold water. This will help to remove any large chunks of debris as well as keep the stain from setting in further.
Once you’ve rinsed the mud stain, it’s time to apply a cleaning solution. Dish soap and liquid laundry detergent both work well for this task. Simply mix a few drops of the cleaner with warm water and gently rub it onto the affected area with a soft cloth or scrub brush. You may need to repeat this process several times until stain is gone.
Once the mud stain has been removed, wash the shoes with detergent in the washing machine. For best results, use a gentle cycle and cool water. To help prevent damage to the material, don’t use too much detergent and only use the washing machine once.
Once the shoes are washed, air dry them instead of putting them in the dryer. If you have a wooden drying rack, hang shoes to dry so the material doesn’t stretch out. If not, lay shoes flat on a clean towel or a dry surface and let them air dry completely.
After the shoes are dry, inspect for any lingering mud stains. If there are any, create a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water and apply it to the affected area. Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes, then blot with a clean, damp cloth. Rinse with cold water, and the stains should be gone!
Removing mud stains from the bottom of shoes may seem like an insurmountable task, but if you follow the steps outlined above, you should be successful. Just remember to rinse the stain right away, apply a cleaning solution, wash with detergent, air dry, and spot treat any residual stains. Good luck!
