What You’ll Need

  • Mild liquid laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Clean sponge or brush
  • Clean cloth

Step 1: Pre-treat With Detergent

Start by pre-treating the fabric with a mild liquid laundry detergent. For heavier stains, use a soft-bristled brush or a clean sponge to work the detergent into fabric. Rub the detergent gently in a circular motion, making sure that you don’t rub too hard and damage the fabric.

Step 2: Rinse With Vinegar

Once pre-treatment is complete, fill a bucket with warm water and 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Submerge the board shorts in the mixture and swish them around. Let them soak for about 15 minutes, then take them out and rinse off the vinegar with cool water.

Step 3: Air Dry

When the board shorts are clean and rinsed, hang them up in a well-ventilated area to air dry. Do not put them in dryer—the heat could set in the stains and make them harder to remove.

Additional Tips & Tricks

  • Always test the detergent or vinegar solution on an inconspicuous part of the garment first to make sure there’s no discoloration or damage.
  • If you see any remaining stains after washing, treat them with an enzyme stain remover before air drying.
  • For really tough mud stains, you can add a cup of baking soda to vinegar solution.
