Ingredients You'll Need
- White vinegar
- Borax
- Laundry detergent
- Oxygen-based bleach
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Cold water
- Small basin
Step-by-Step Guide
- Rinse the stained area with cold water and rub gently.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of borax into a small basin of cold water.
- Soak the stained area for about 30 minutes.
- After soaking, rinse the area again with cold water and apply laundry detergent directly onto the stain.
- Gently rub the detergent in with your fingers.
- Rinse again with cold water. If stain is still visible, mix ½ cup of oxygen-based bleach and 2 cups of cold water in a small basin. Soak the stained area in the solution for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse again.
- If the stain is still visible after this step, mix equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and cold water and apply directly to the stain. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes and then rinse with cold water.
- If the stain persists, repeat steps 6 and 7 until the stain is gone.
- Finally, launder the activewear as usual and check to make sure stain is gone before putting it in the dryer.
Additional Tips for Removing Mud Stains from Activewear
- Be sure to always use cold water when removing mud stains. Hot water can set the stain, making it even more difficult to remove.
- If possible, try to treat the stain as soon as possible. The longer it sits, the harder it will be to remove.
- Always read and follow care instructions on the tag of your activewear before attempting any stain removal methods.
- Be sure to always test any stain removal methods on an inconspicuous area of the garment before applying it to the stained area.
