Step 1: Blot the Stain

The first step to removing a mouthwash stain is to soak up as much of the liquid as you can. To do this, take a sponge or clean cloth and blot the area where the spill occurred. Be careful not to rub too hard or the fabric may become stretched and damaged.

Step 2: Create a Cleaning Solution

Using a bowl or jar, combine 3 parts cold water with 1 part white vinegar. Place some of solution onto a clean cloth and gently dab onto the stain, making sure not to rub or scrub the area. This should help to loosen and break down the stain.

Step 3: Rinse and Dry

Take a clean cloth and dampen it in cold water. Use the damp cloth to rinse away any remaining cleaning solution. Once the velvet has been rinsed, use a dry cloth to blot area until it is dry. Repeat these steps if the stain is still present.

Final Tips

  • Always test a small portion of the fabric before using any cleaning solution to make sure it’s colorfast.
  • Avoid using hot water or harsh chemicals as they may damage the fabric.
  • When blotting or rinsing, always work from the outside of stain to the inside to avoid spreading the stain.
