Teneriffe lace is a delicate, heirloom-quality textile that often finds its way into wardrobe pieces like collars, cuffs and even dresses. Unfortunately, mouthwash stains can be nearly impossible to remove without compromising the integrity of the lace. Here's how to make sure your delicate clothing pieces look their best.
The first step in removing mouthwash stains from Teneriffe lace is to create a mixture that will break down the stain. You'll need an enzymatic cleaner, such as Era or OxiClean, mixed with water. Start with one tablespoon of cleaner for every cup of water, and adjust the ratio as needed. You want to make sure the mixture is strong enough to break down the stain but not so strong that it damages the fabric.
Once you've created your mixture, it's time to pre-treat the stain. Start by lightly moistening the affected area with a damp cloth. Be careful not to saturate the lace too much, as this could cause damage. Once it's damp, apply the mixture directly to the stain and allow it to sit for at least five minutes.
When the pre-treatment process is complete, it's time to rinse lace. Use warm, running water and gently rub the stain until it starts to come out. Once the stain has been removed, take a closer look to verify that all residue has been eliminated. If traces of the stain remain, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is completely gone.
Once the stain is gone, dry the lace thoroughly with a clean cloth. Hang it up to air dry, if possible, and then finish by pressing it with a cool iron. Your Teneriffe lace should now look good as new!
