Removing mouthwash stains from a sweatshirt requires a combination of specific cleaning materials and a little bit of elbow grease. Here’s what you’ll need for the task:
Before beginning, check the care label on your sweatshirt to make sure no special instructions apply. All set? Let’s get started!
Fill a bucket with three parts cold water and one part white vinegar. Put the stained portion of the sweatshirt into bucket and let it soak for 15 minutes.
Remove the sweatshirt from the bucket and rinse off any excess vinegar. Fill a tub or sink with cold water and add a capful of liquid laundry detergent, stirring to combine. Place the sweatshirt into the cleaning solution and let soak for 10 minutes, then wash with a mild detergent in washing machine on a gentle cycle.
Once the washing cycle has completed, fill the tub or sink again with cold water. Add a spoonful of bleach alternative and stir. Place the sweatshirt in the solution and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Then, rinse the garment of any remaining solution.
If there are still faint stains visible, take an old toothbrush and some cold water and lightly scrub away the remaining residue. Then, throw the sweatshirt back in the washing machine for a final refresh.
Hang your newly-cleaned sweatshirt up to dry, and enjoy wearing it in style without any lingering mouthwash stains.
