Mouthwash is great for keeping your teeth and gums healthy and your breath fresh, but it can be a bit of a nuisance when you accidentally stain your clothes with it. It happens to the best of us - you're about to get into bed after brushing your teeth and find that you've left a bright blue smudge on your sleep shirt. Fortunately, there are several simple, easy-to-follow steps that can help restore your sleep shirt to its former glory.
Start by gathering the supplies that you'll need for this cleaning task. You'll need laundry detergent, laundry pre-treatment solution, white vinegar, and a toothbrush.
Once your supplies are assembled, you can begin pre-treating stain. Spray laundry pre-treatment solution directly onto the stained area, then allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes. This will help loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.
After the pre-treatment solution has had a chance to set, fill a sink or basin with warm water and add a scoop of laundry detergent. Gently submerge the stained area and allow it to soak for 10-15 minutes. The detergent will help lift the stain from the fabric.
Once the stain has been soaked, use a toothbrush to lightly scrub the area. This will help further remove the stain. Be sure to scrub gently - you don't want to damage the fabric!
After you've finished scrubbing, rinse the area with cold water. If any traces of the stain remain, pour a bit of white vinegar onto the area and allow it to sit for a few minutes. The vinegar should help remove the remaining discoloration.
Once stain is gone, place the shirt in the washing machine on the delicate cycle. After the cycle has finished, lay the shirt flat to dry or tumble dry on the lowest heat setting.
