Mouthwash stains on silk can be a tricky problem to solve. Silk is particularly vulnerable to dye transfer due to its delicate fibers, and most types of detergent can cause it to shrink or fade prematurely. Furthermore, many ingredients in mouthwash can increase the difficulty of removing the stain.
As soon as you notice the stain, use an absorbent cloth or sponge to blot up as much of the liquid as possible from the fabric. Try not to rub the fabric, as this can spread the stain.
Fill a bucket with lukewarm water, and add ¼ cup of white vinegar. Submerge the stained area of the fabric in the solution and let it soak for 15 minutes. The vinegar helps to weaken the stain, making it easier to remove.
Rinse the fabric in cool water and blot dry with an absorbent cloth. If any of the stain remains, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone.
If the stain persists after rinsing, use a small amount of dry cleaning solvent on fabric, following the manufacturer's instructions. Let the solvent soak in and then rinse the fabric in cool water. Blot dry with an absorbent cloth.
