Before applying any treatments or cleaning solutions, start by spot-treating the affected area with a white vinegar solution. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water, then use a clean cloth or an eyedropper to dab the solution onto stain.
Once you’ve spot-treated the stain with vinegar, rinse it again with cold water. Then apply a mild detergent, such as a liquid laundry detergent. To apply, mix a teaspoon of detergent in two cups of warm water, then gently dab mixture onto the stain. Allow the detergent to penetrate for at least 10 minutes.
When detergent has had time to take effect, thoroughly rinse treated fabric until all traces of detergent are gone. Next, put your item in a washing machine using cool water and a gentle cycle. If the directions on your garment tag do not recommend machine washing, then hand wash it instead. Remove item from the washing machine as soon as the cycle is finished.
Air drying is the best way to prevent shrinkage and damage to silk fabrics. Place the item on a flat surface and wait for it to dry before wearing it. If you Iron it, make sure to keep the iron setting on low.
