Mouthwash is made mostly of alcohol, which is hard on fabrics like scarves. Without proper cleaning methods, the stain can become a permanent fixture. To remove the mouthwash from your scarf, start by rinsing the fabric with cold water. This will help remove some of excess mouthwash. Then, pretreat the stain with a stain remover that contains enzymes. Enzymes are enzymes that break down organic molecules like proteins and lipids, helping to loosen stain.
If you don’t have a stain remover that contains enzymes, you can also try a few home remedies. One way is to mix white vinegar and water in equal amounts, then apply the solution to the affected area. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing it out. Alternatively, try mixing baking soda and water into a paste and applying it to the stain. Let the paste sit for 15 minutes before rinsing.
After treating the stain, it’s time to wash scarf. Use cold water and a mild detergent, and set the washing machine to a delicate cycle. Hang the scarf to dry, away from direct sunlight. Check the scarf after it’s dry to make sure the stain has been removed. If it’s still visible, you may need to repeat cleaning process.
With these steps, you should be able to remove mouthwash stains from your scarf. If the stain won’t come out after several attempts, consider taking the scarf to a professional cleaner. They may be able to get it out with special cleaning solutions or processes.
