Start by scraping away as much of the stained material as possible. This could include a crusty dried liquid or food residue that needs to be removed. Use a dull knife or spatula to scrape off the excess without damaging the fabric. Do not rub or scrub the stained area, as this may spread stain further.
Once you've removed any excess material, it's time to pretreat stain. Use a prewash stain remover or a mixture of one part vinegar and one part water and apply it to stained area. If using vinegar and water, apply it with a clean cloth and then let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing.
Finally, it's time to wash the pullover. For best results, use a gentle cycle with cold water. Then, add detergent or a prewash stain remover and run the cycle again. When finished, hang pullover up to dry. You should find that the mouthwash stain has been removed.
To help prevent future mouthwash stains, be sure to rinse out your pullover immediately after use. Allow your pullover to dry completely before storing it away, as damp clothes are more likely to attract and hold onto stains.
