Step 1: Soak The Stain with Water

The first step to removing stain is to soak it in cold water for about five minutes. This allows for the stain to become slightly diluted which helps make the removal process easier.

Step 2: Pre-Treat with a Stain Remover

Once the fabric has been soaked in water, pre-treat the area with a stain remover specifically designed for colored fabrics. Follow the instructions on the product’s label and, if needed, use a clean cloth or sponge to work the product into soiled area.

Step 3: Launder as Normal

After pre-treating the area, launder the garment as normal using warm water, the same soap that you normally use, and of course--a clean cloth or sponge for scrubbing. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for washing and drying the item.

Additional Tips

  • If the stain is still visible after laundering, repeat pre-treat and launder steps.
  • For stubborn stains, mix one part detergent to four parts water and rub the mixture into the area before laundering.
  • To prevent future staining on delicate fabrics, always rinse out mouthwash cups and glasses with cold water before tossing them into the sink.
