The first step to removing a mouthwash stain from an Oxford fabric item is to pre-treat it with a stain remover. Spray the stain liberally and let it sit for a few minutes to allow stain remover to penetrate the fibers and loosen the stain.
Fill a sink or a bucket with warm water and add a capful of laundry detergent. Place the stained item in the soapy water and let it soak for at least 15 minutes. This will help to further break down the stain and make it easier to remove.
Once the item has been soaking for at least 15 minutes, use a soft sponge or cloth to gently scrub stain. Be sure not to scrub too hard, as this can damage the fabric. Focus on the stained area and work in circles to work stain remover and laundry detergent into the fibers.
Rinse fabric under running warm water to remove any excess detergent and stain remover. Lay the fabric flat on a towel, then pat it gently to remove any remaining moisture without stretching the fabric.
Once the fabric is dry, it's time to wash and dry item per its listed care instructions. To ensure that all of stain is removed, check item before putting it in the dryer. If any of stain remains, repeat the pre-treatment and scrubbing steps before laundering again.
