What You Will Need

  • Dish soap or laundry detergent
  • A safe cleaning solvent (recommended: rubbing alcohol)
  • A toothbrush
  • White vinegar

Cleaning Stain

  1. As soon as you notice the stain, dab it with a damp cloth to remove as much of the mouthwash as possible.
  2. Mix one tablespoon of dish soap or laundry detergent with two cups of cold water.
  3. Soak a cloth in the soapy solution and dab area again. This will help to lift the stain from the fabric. You may need to repeat this process several times.
  4. Apply a small amount of safe cleaning solvent to a microfiber cloth and dab stain again. Be sure to read the instructions on the package for the correct usage. Avoid saturating the fabric.
  5. If the stain persists, mix one part white vinegar with two parts cold water in a bowl. Soak a cloth in the solution and dab the area gently. Repeat this step until the stain is lifted.
  6. If any residue remains, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to scrub the area. Take care not to damage the fabric while scrubbing.
  7. Once the stain is gone, rinse the fabric with cold water and allow it to air dry.

Preventing Mouthwash Stains

  • Use a cloth or paper towel to blot and absorb any excess liquid.
  • If possible, pretreat area with a spot cleaner before washing.
  • Follow the garment label's instructions for washing and drying the fabric.
