The first step is to absorb as much of the stain as possible. Blot the stained area with a dry cloth or paper towel to remove any excess liquid. Avoid rubbing the fabric, as this may spread the stain. If stain has already dried, try spraying it with lukewarm water and then blotting it with a dry cloth.
The next step is to apply a stain remover. There are many different types of stain removers available, but one that works well on mouthwash stains is a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Apply the solution directly to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before blotting it up with a dry cloth. You may need to repeat this process several times for stubborn stains.
Before proceeding to the next step, it is important to check for colorfastness. To do this, simply dip a corner of the cloth you used to blot the stain into the vinegar and water solution. Then, dab the cloth onto an inconspicuous area of the handbag, such as an inner seam, and wait a few minutes to make sure the fabric’s color isn’t running.
Once you have ensured the fabric is colorfast, you can rinse the stained area with cold water. This will help to remove any residue left by the stain remover. Blot the area dry with a clean cloth, and repeat process until the stain has disappeared.
After rinsing the stained area, let bag air dry. Resist temptation to use a hair dryer, as high heat can cause the fabric to shrink or become misshapen. Once bag is completely dry, it should be free of mouthwash stains.
