The first step in removing mouthwash stains from jackets is to soak the stain in sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda. To do this, mix a small amount of baking soda with some water, then apply the mixture directly to the stain. Allow it to sit on the fabric for at least 30 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water.
If the stain is still present after rinsing off baking soda, try applying white vinegar. Apply a small amount directly to the stain, then rub it into the fabric gently. Allow it to sit on the fabric for at least 10 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.
If the stain is still present after rinsing off the vinegar, try pretreating it with dish soap. Apply a small amount of dish soap directly to the stain, then rub it into the fabric gently. Allow it to sit on the fabric for at least 10 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.
After the stain has been pretreated with dish soap, place the jacket in a washing machine set to cold water. Use a mild detergent designed for delicates, and add a half cup of baking soda to the wash cycle, as this will help to further break down the stain. Wash the jacket on a gentle cycle, then air dry it.
