Using Detergent and Water

Mix a cup of mild detergent with a quart of warm water and stir until the detergent has dissolved. Dip a washcloth into the mixture and wring out any excess liquid. Gently scrub the stained area with the cloth and the solution for about two minutes. Finish by wiping area with a clean, damp cloth. Rinse it with a separate damp cloth, and then pat area dry with a soft towel.

Using White Vinegar and Water

Mouthwash often contains dye, so we recommend rinsing the stain first with white vinegar diluted in water. Start by mixing one part white vinegar with three parts lukewarm water. Dip a cloth into the mix and press it against the stain for a couple of minutes. Then wipe area with a clean cloth and thoroughly rinse it. Don't forget to blot the area dry afterward.

Using Baking Soda and Vinegar

For deeper staining, try this method. Begin by making a paste of baking soda and white vinegar. Apply the paste to the stained area and let it sit for about five minutes. Rub the area gently with a soft brush before rinsing with cool water. Repeat as necessary until the stain is removed and then dab area dry with a soft towel.

Using Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is another effective option for removing mouthwash stains from furniture. First, blot the spot with a paper towel. Then, pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol over stain and gently rub the area with a soft cloth. Finish by wiping the area clean with a damp cloth and allow it to dry completely.

Preventative Measures

To stop future stains, always use coaster or placemat when serving drinks. This will help to avoid any potential spills. Finally, consider treating surfaces with a household oil or wax to help protect them from stains.
