Removing Mouthwash Stains from Formalwear: A Step-by-Step Guide

What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • White toothpaste (not gel)
  • Soft cloth
  • Mild detergent

Step 1: Blot the Stain Immediately

As soon as you realize that mouthwash has been spilled onto your formalwear, grab a soft cloth and start blotting area. This will help absorb as much of the liquid as possible and minimize how far the stain will spread.

Step 2: Apply White Vinegar to the Stain

Once you've blotted the area, apply white vinegar directly onto the stain. Allow it sit for about 10 minutes, then use the soft cloth to blot the stain again. The vinegar will help dissolve the stain.

Step 3: Apply White Toothpaste to the Stain

If any of stain remains after applying the vinegar, apply a bit of white toothpaste directly onto the stain. Gently rub toothpaste into the area with the soft cloth and then rinse it off with cool water.

Step 4: Wash the Formalwear

Once you've tried these steps, it's time to launder your formalwear. Use a mild detergent and lukewarm water (no warmer than 104°F) to wash the garment according to the instructions on care label. Air dry or tumble dry on low heat.
