What You'll Need

  • Cold tap water
  • Heavy-duty laundry detergent
  • A clean, dry cloth
  • Borax or baking soda (optional)

Step 1: Blot Up Excess Liquid

The first step is to blot any excess mouthwash off the fabric. Use a dry cloth to quickly remove anything that hasn't yet been absorbed by the fabric.

Step 2: Soak in Cold Water

Soak the fabric in cold water as soon as possible. The cold temperature of the water won't set the stain, making it easier to remove. Allow the fabric to soak for an hour or two.

Step 3: Wash with Detergent and Baking Soda

Once the fabric has had a chance to soak, wash it gently with a heavy-duty laundry detergent. You can also add borax or baking soda to the wash to help lift the stain further. Use cold water only.

Step 4: Dry Fabric

Once you've washed the fabric, dry it on a low setting. Don't use high heat, as this can set stain, making it much more difficult to remove.
