Using a soft cloth or paper towel, gently blot the excess mouthwash from the affected area of the fabric. Be sure not to rub the fabric, as this could cause even more damage. If the area is still damp, use a blow dryer on a low setting to help the fabric dry more quickly.
Mix a few drops of mild laundry detergent with water in a small bowl. Dip a cotton swab into the mixture and lightly dab it onto the stain. Take care not to rub fabric too roughly, as this could cause irreparable damage.
With a soft cloth, gently dab the affected area with plain water. Be sure to rinse detergent from the fabric before moving on to next step.
Using a white toothbrush, gently scrub the affected area in a circular motion. This will help to get rid of any remaining mouthwash residue. Again, be sure not to rub the fabric too harshly, as this could cause further damage.
In a small bowl, mix equal parts baking soda and water to make a paste. Spread the paste onto stained area and allow it to sit for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, use a soft cloth to gently remove the paste. This will help get rid of any remaining mouthwash residue.
Once the baking soda paste has been removed, use a soft cloth to dab affected area with plain water. This will help to ensure that all of residue is gone.
