Cleaning old or new broomstick lace can be tricky, especially if the fabric has been stained with mouthwash. Luckily, there are a few tips and tricks that you can use to get rid of those frustrating mouthwash stains without damaging your piece!

Removing Fresh Stains

If the stain is fresh, start by stirring up a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts warm water in a bowl. Dip a clean cotton cloth into solution and use it to blot the stain. Blot gently, as too much pressure can damage fabric. After blotting, rinse the area with cold water, then lay the piece flat on a towel and allow it to air dry.

Dealing With Old Stains

If the stains are older, try spraying them with an enzyme stain remover before blotting with vinegar/water solution as described above. You may need to do several treatments for stubborn stains. Once the stains have been successfully removed, use a mild detergent (if necessary) and cool water to wash the piece. Allow it to air dry on a flat surface.

Preventing Future Stains

Always handle your broomstick lace with care, and be sure to store it away from other fabrics that may have a higher likelihood of staining. Additionally, always use a waterproof table cloth when using your broomstick lace for crafting, and wash off any spilled liquids promptly.

Making Sure Your Piece is Safe

Before cleaning your broomstick lace, always make sure to perform a fabric test on an inconspicuous area to ensure that the fabric will not be damaged by the cleaning solution. If you’re not sure whether or not a particular cleaning method is safe, consult a professional dry cleaner for advice.
