Start by testing the fabric for colorfastness. Do this by combining some vinegar and water in a cup and lightly dabbing the solution onto a corner of the clothing item. If the color does not bleed out when rubbed, you can move ahead with cleaning stain.
The next step is to remove as much of the liquid as you can. Do this by dabbing it with a clean cloth or paper towels to absorb the mouthwash. Be sure not to rub or scrub the fabric, as this could cause stain to spread.
Now apply some baking soda directly onto the stain. This will help absorb any remaining moisture and also work to break down the mouthwash residue. Allow this to sit for about 15 minutes before brushing off.
Using your laundry detergent and either warm water or your machine's pre-set stain setting, wash the article of clothing. For a stronger clean, add some oxygen-based bleach or powder during the wash cycle. Once complete, hang dry to evaluate results. If the stain is still present, repeat steps 2-4.
