Step 1: Blot the Stain

When dealing with a mouthwash stain on your Angora item, the first step is always to blot area with a clean towel. Using a paper towel or tissue doesn’t work as well, since it may further push the stain into the material. Focus on blotting the stain gently without rubbing it – this will help prevent it from setting deep into the material.

Step 2: Soak in Cold Water

Once the stain has been blotted, the next step is to soak the item in cold water. Fill a bucket or sink with cold water and add a few drops of mild detergent. Submerge the item and let it soak for 2-3 hours. Afterward, take the item out and check to see if the stain is still there. If it is, move on to the next steps.

Step 3: Pre-Treat with Stain Remover

If the stain is still present after soaking, pre-treat it with a reliable stain remover. Pick a product specifically designed to remove stubborn stains, such as hair dye, blood, ink, and more. Apply the stain remover directly on the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then, blot the area again with a clean towel.

Step 4: Launder as Usual

Once the stain has been pre-treated with a stain remover, launder the item as usual. Use warm/cold water on a delicate cycle, based on the instructions on the care label of your item. Do not use harsh chemicals or bleach, as this can damage the material. However, you may choose to add a small amount of white vinegar to the wash cycle to remove odors.

Step 5: Hang to Dry

Once the item goes through the wash cycle, hang it to dry. Since Angora is a delicate material, do not use a dryer as that can damage the fabric. Make sure to also avoid direct sunlight, as it can fade the item. Allow item to air dry fully before wearing or storing away.
