To begin, identify what type of medicine was spilled on fabric. Different categories of medication require different cleaning strategies to ensure that fabric does not discolor or become damaged.
Once you have determined what kind of medicine stained your fabric, choose an appropriate cleaning solution. For example, lighter stains from ointments may only require a lukewarm water solution while heavier stains may require more specific solutions such as one teaspoon of lemon juice, dishwashing liquid, and water.
After choosing a cleaning solution, use a soft cloth to gently apply the mixture to the stained area. Work from outside of the stain inwards to avoid spreading stain. Be sure that the cleaning solution does not discolor or damage fabric.
After the cleaning solution has been applied, rinse away any remaining residue with a damp cloth. Try to work quickly so that the fabric does not discolor or become damaged.
Once the cleaning solution is completely washed away, thoroughly dry and then iron the fabric using a hot iron. The heat of iron will help to set any remaining stains.
If any remaining stains persist, repeat steps 2-5 as necessary. Remember to always test a small area of the fabric before applying the cleaning solution and never bleach, scrub, or use abrasive cleaning agents on traditional clothing.
