Removing Fresh Medicine Stains

If you manage to quickly deal with a fresh stain while it's still wet, it should be relatively easy to remove. Immediately rinse the swim trunks with cool water. Turn them inside out and place them in cold water and let them soak for up to 30 minutes. Then, apply a small amount of laundry detergent - like Tide, OxiClean, or Woolite - straight onto affected area and gently work it into the fabric using your hands. Finally, rinse off detergent and hang dry the swim trunks.

Getting Rid of Old Medicine Stains

Unfortunately, old medicine stains are tougher to remove. Start by soaking swim trunks in cold water for about an hour. Once they've been soaked, you can either use a stain remover specifically designed for removing medication - like one from Solvent Solutions - or you can create a cleaning solution by mixing a cup of vinegar with a tablespoon of detergent and half a cup of warm water. For best results, apply the cleaning solution or spot remover to the affected area, let it sit for up to 30 minutes, and then gently scrub the fabric with a soft-bristled brush. Always test the cleaning solution or spot remover on an inconspicuous area of the swim trunks first.
