Silk dupioni is a luxurious fabric that exudes elegance, but it is also prone to staining. The trick to successfully cleaning a medicine stain off dupioni silk is to act quickly and use the correct techniques. Here’s what you need to do:
Using a cotton cloth or paper towel, gently blot the affected area to soak up as much of the spilled liquid as possible. Do not rub the stain, as this will only spread it further.
Mix one teaspoon of a neutral laundry detergent with two cups of warm water. Dip a white cloth into the mixture and use it to dab stained area. Work in outward circles from the center of the stain and rinse the area with lukewarm water when done.
Take one tablespoon of white vinegar and mix it with two cups of lukewarm water. Dip a clean white cloth into the solution and dab the stained area. Rinse out the vinegar-water mixture and repeat the process if needed.
Finally, lay the fabric flat and let it air dry. Once dry, inspect the area to make sure the stain is gone and then iron the fabric on the lowest heat setting.
With these easy steps, you should be able to get rid of that pesky medicine stain on your silk dupioni with no trouble at all!
