What You Will Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • Vinegar
  • Soft-bristle brush
  • Stain remover
  • White cloth

Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

As soon as possible, pre-treat the stain before washing by applying a laundry detergent directly on top of the area. When applying it, use a soft-bristled brush or your fingers to work in a circular motion. This will help to loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step 2: Soak Stain

Fill a sink or bucket with warm water and a cup of vinegar. Place the garment in the mixture and let it soak for 30 minutes. If the stain is still visible after this, repeat soaking process for an additional 15 minutes.

Step 3: Gently Rub the Stain

After soaking the garment in vinegar, gently rub the stain with a soft-bristled brush. This will help to loosen any dirt and grime that has built up on the clothing. Working in circles, scrub the stain slowly and methodically, but take care not to rub too hard as this could cause damage to the fabric of the garment.

Step 4: Rinse and Repeat

If the stain still remains after scrubbing, rinse the garment in cold water and apply a stain remover specifically designed for use on silk. Follow the instructions on the package and allow the remover to set for the amount of time recommended. Once finished, rinse the garment again and check to see if the stain is gone.

Step 5: Dry and Iron

After ensuring the stain has been removed, dry garment according to the type of fabric. When finished, press the garment using a dry piece of white cloth. Do not place iron directly onto the silk fabric to avoid damaging the material.
