Read the care instructions on your robe's label. This will help you determine which cleaning method is best for your robe. If your robe is marked as “dry clean only," then it’s best to leave it to the professionals.
Next, examine the medicine stain. Is it fresh or old? The fresher the stain, easier it will be to remove. Fresh stains should be treated right away.
Be sure to gather all the materials you need before you begin. You'll need:
Start by dampening a clean cloth with cold water and blotting (not rubbing) the stain. This will help to lift stain from the robe and onto the cloth.
Mix a solution of one teaspoon of laundry detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar with half a cup of cold water. Dip the cloth into the solution, then blot the stained area.
Blot until the stain starts to fade – but be sure to avoid rubbing, as this can cause the stain to spread and set more deeply into the fabric.
Once the stain has faded, rinse the area with cold water and blot it with a clean, dry cloth to remove any remaining residue.
Don't put your robe in the dryer until you are sure the stain is gone. The heat will cause the stain to become permanent.
If the stain still won’t come out, you can give the robe a final wash with a professional garment cleaner. This is especially important for dry clean only garments.
