The first step in getting rid of medicine stains is to act quickly. The sooner you can treat the stain, better chance you have of removing it. If the stain has already dried, proceed to Step 2.
You will need a few supplies to pretreat the stain:
To begin, mix a solution of one teaspoon of detergent to one quart of warm water. Using the white cloth or paper towel, dab (do not rub) at the stain with the detergent solution. This will help to loosen the stain and remove any residue.
Once stain has been pretreated, you can wash the raincoat. Be sure to check the care tag on the garment for instructions on how to properly clean the raincoat. It is usually best to use a gentle cycle and cold water. You may also want to use a mild detergent, such as Woolite. Do not add fabric softener.
After washing, hang the raincoat up to dry. Avoid using a dryer, as this may cause the stain to set. Hang the raincoat in a place with good air circulation, such as near a fan. Once the raincoat is completely dry, inspect the stain to see if it is gone. If not, repeat Steps 1-4.
Medicine stains don't have to be permanent. With a few simple steps, you can easily remove medicine stains from your raincoat. Just remember to act quickly, pretreat the stain, wash raincoat, and then hang it to dry. Before you know it, your raincoat will look good as new.
