Stains on a medicine pump can be challenging to remove, but with the right techniques and supplies, they don’t have to be. Follow these four simple steps and you’ll have your medicine pump looking like new in no time.

Step 1: Identify Your Stain

A quick diagnosis of the type of stain will help determine best cleaning technique. Is it a water-soluble stain or an oil-based one? If the stain appears to be an errant chalky residue of a powdered medication, then you’ll need a different strategy.

Step 2: Pick the Right Cleaner

The wrong cleaner can do more harm than good, so choose wisely. For oil-based stains, opt for an all-purpose cleaner and a soft cloth. For water-soluble stains, use a mild soap and warm water. For chalky stains, use a plastic scrub brush and cleaning solution specially made for plastic (like 409). Use plenty of cleaner, but avoid using too much as it can create a greasy film on surface.

Step 3: Start Scrubbing

Gently apply the cleaner to the stain and begin scrubbing with a soft cloth or scrub brush. Make sure to work the cleaner into the stain, then rinse with warm water and repeat if necessary. Once the stain has been removed, wipe off any excess cleaner and rinse thoroughly.

Step 4: Dry and Inspect

Using a towel or drying cloth, dry medicine pump. Check for any leftover spots from stain, and if there are any, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until it is completely gone. Give your pump one final inspection, and you’re done!
