Before laundering, it's important to properly pre-treat the impacted area. To do this, first remove any solid residue such as pill fragments or dirt on the spot. Then, pour a small amount of liquid detergent directly onto the stain, and gently rub the stain with a soft brush. Leave the detergent on for 20 minutes before continuing.
Once the 20 minute pre-treatment period has passed, launder the item on a hot water wash cycle. Use a color-safe bleach, such as oxygen bleach, if the stain is heavily set in and wasn't completely removed by the detergent. Never use chlorine bleach on colored denim.
If the laundry process was unable to completely eliminate the medicine stain, take jeans outside and lay them in direct sunlight. Sunlight can help bleaching agents activate and break up tough stains. Once the jeans are dry, examine the stain again to see if it has lightened or faded. If not, repeat Steps 1 and 2.
