Garter fabric is a lightweight, ribbed knit fabric that's often used in medical garments such as socks and stockings. If you have garter fabric items that have been stained by medicine, fortunately there is a way to effectively and safely remove the stain. Here are some simple steps you can take:
The first step is to blot the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel. Do not scrub at the stain as this can cause it to spread more and can also damage the fabric. Simply apply pressure to area and continue to do this until stain is no longer visible.
Once you've blotted the stain, you will want to soak it in cold water. This will help loosen molecules of the medicine and make it easier to remove the stain. Leave the item to soak for at least 30 minutes before moving on to the next step.
After soaking the item, you can wash it in a washing machine. It's best to use a mild laundry detergent and cold water for this process. Avoid using hot water as this may cause the stain to set further into the fabric. Additionally, avoid using bleach as this can discolor the fabric. Once the item is washed, leave it to air dry or tumble dry on a low heat setting.
If the stain is still present after completing the previous steps, you may need to repeat the process. Make sure to check the item regularly to ensure that stain has completely gone before putting it back into use.
