The first step is to determine material of your dashiki. Different fabrics require different cleaning methods, so it's important to know what type of material you're working with. Once that is determined, begin by rinsing the stain with cold water. This will help to loosen the pigmentation and give you a better chance of being successful with the next steps.
Next, create a paste mixture with equal parts salt and water. Gently scrub this mixture onto the stain and let it sit for about 5 minutes. After that, use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the paste into fabric in a circular motion. This should help to remove any residue and lighten the color of the stain.
For particularly tough stains, you may need to use a stronger cleaner like ammonia or vinegar. To do this, mix one part vinegar or ammonia with two parts water and pour it directly onto stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes before blotting it off with a damp cloth. Rinse area with cold water afterwards and let it dry completely before wearing.
Finally, if the stain remains, you may need to take your dashiki to a dry cleaner. They have specialized cleaning products and equipment that may be able to get out remaining discoloration. With a few simple steps and some handy cleaning supplies, you can quickly and easily remove medicine stains from your dashiki.
