Step 1: Let it Soak

This process will depend on the type of material your cutting board is made from. If it is plastic, you can fill a basin with warm water and allow the stained board to soak for at least an hour before you start to clean it. For wood boards, you only need to let it sit in the warm water for 15-20 minutes.

Step 2: Scrub Away

Once soaking is done, use a sponge or brush with a mild soap to start scrubbing away the medicine stains. Make sure to be gentle with any plastic surfaces, as you don’t want to cause any damage. It’s a good idea to run the sponge or brush under warm water while scrubbing, as water helps remove more of the stain.

Step 3: Rinse

Once scrubbing is complete, rinse the cutting board with warm water until all of the soapy residue is gone. Be sure to dry it completely when done, as leaving it in a wet state could result in possible mould or bacteria build up.

Step 4: Sanitize

Sanitizing the cutting board is important to make sure it’s completely free of any germs or bacteria. You can do this by either wiping the board with a cloth soaked in a solution of one part white vinegar and one part water, or by sprinkling it with coarse salt and then rubbing it with half a lemon. Wipe board with a damp cloth afterwards, and it should be ready to use again.
