Steps for Removing Fresh Medicine Stains from Fabric

  • Soak the fabric in cold water with a small quantity of stain remover. Let it soak for at least 1 hour.
  • Rinse the fabric in cold running water.
  • If there is still a residue on the fabric, mix a solution of equal parts water and vinegar and apply it directly to medicine stain.
  • Let solution sit on material for at least 15 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
  • Launder the fabric with warm water.
  • Once the garment has been laundered, inspect for any remaining medicine stain. If the stain still remains, repeat the steps above.

Dealing with Set-in Medicine Stains

  • Mix one part dishwashing detergent with two parts hydrogen peroxide. Use a clean white cloth to apply the solution to the medicine stain.
  • Once the solution has been applied, allow it to sit on the stain for approximately 15 minutes.
  • Rinse the fabric in cold water.
  • Launder the fabric as you normally would.
  • once the garment has been laundered, inspect for any remaining medicine stain. If the stain still remains, repeat the steps above.

  • Always read care label of your cocktail dress before attempting stain removal.
  • To prevent further damage to the fabric, never use hot water or bleach when treating medicine stains.
